World Population Day Celebrated at Rashtrasant Tukdoji Mahavidyalaya, Chimur

A special program was organized at Rashtrasant Tukdoji Mahavidyalaya, Chimur, to commemorate World Population Day on 11 July 2024. The event was successfully held in the college auditorium, with a large number of students, faculty, and staff in attendance. World Population Day is observed globally to raise awareness about the challenges posed by population growth. The objective of the program was to discuss the importance of population planning, environmental balance, sustainable resource use, and sustainable development.
The program commenced at 10:00 AM with the singing of the National Anthem. The introductory speech was delivered by Dr. Rajeshwar Rahangdale, Head of the Population Education Board. In his address, he highlighted the history and significance of World Population Day. Dr. Rahangdale emphasized that the rapidly increasing global population is putting pressure on essential resources such as food, water, education, and healthcare. He urged students to become aware of their responsibilities regarding population control. His introduction set the tone for the program and encouraged thoughtful reflection among the attendees.
The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Laxman Kamdi, who delivered a detailed lecture on the topic “Population Growth and Sustainable Development.” Dr. Kamdi discussed the consequences of population growth in India, the importance of family planning initiatives, and the role of women’s empowerment. He presented factual information supported by statistics and examples, explaining the topic in simple language. The students responded enthusiastically to his lecture, asking several questions, which Dr. Kamdi answered satisfactorily.
The program was presided over by Vice-Principal Dr. Prafull Bansod. In his presidential address, he spoke about the college’s role in the context of World Population Day. Dr. Bansod noted that the college consistently organizes programs to promote social awareness, with population education being a key focus area. He appreciated the efforts of the keynote speaker and the organizing committee and encouraged students to actively participate in such initiatives. His speech provided an inspiring conclusion to the event.
The program was skillfully moderated by Prof. Ashutosh Popate, who effectively connected the various segments and kept the audience engaged. His anchoring ensured that the program ran smoothly and adhered to the schedule.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Mendulkar expressed gratitude to all involved. He extended heartfelt thanks to the keynote speaker, the presiding officer, the organizing committee, faculty, and students. He emphasized that such programs can bring about positive societal change.
The success of the program was due to the dedicated efforts of the members of the Population Education Board. Approximately 42 students and 12 faculty members attended the event. The program concluded with the National Anthem. Overall, the event was highly impactful, aligning with the objectives of World Population Day and providing attendees with a fresh perspective.
