1. Introduction
To put the principles of “Cleanliness is Service” and “Clean Surroundings, Healthy Surroundings” into active practice, a Special Campus Cleanliness Drive was organized on August 13, 2026, by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Rashtrasant Tukdoji College, Chimur, under the Central Government’s “Swachhata Pakhwada 2026” campaign. The primary objective of this initiative was to instill the value of voluntary labor (shramdaan) among students and to maintain a clean, beautiful, and plastic-free college campus.
2. Commencement and Planning
The cleanliness drive commenced in the morning by paying homage to the portrait of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj. The NSS Program Officers emphasized the importance of hygiene to the participants, divided the campus into specific sectors, and assigned volunteers into teams. Gloves, brooms, garbage collection bags, and other necessary cleaning equipment were provided to the students.
3. Cleanliness Work and Voluntary Labor
NSS volunteers participated with immense enthusiasm and discipline to clean the entire college premises. The following tasks were executed during the drive:
Campus Cleaning: The main playground, classroom corridors, and the surroundings of the library and laboratories were thoroughly swept and cleaned.
Plastic Elimination Drive: Littered plastic waste, glass, thermocol, and other non-biodegradable items were collected for proper disposal.
Weed and Bush Clearing: Unwanted grass, congress grass (Parthenium), and overgrown bushes that had grown during the monsoon were cleared to keep the area neat and accessible.
Waste Segregation: The collected waste was segregated into wet and dry waste categories and assembled for handover to the municipal garbage collection vehicle.
4. Participation of Volunteers and Faculty
Along with the NSS volunteers, faculty members and non-teaching staff actively participated and rendered voluntary labor. Their collective efforts gave the entire college campus a fresh, hygienic, and pleasant appearance.
5. Guidance Message
Speaking at the conclusion of the drive, the NSS Program Officers remarked, “Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj laid immense emphasis on cleanliness in his sacred text ‘Gramgeeta’. Maintaining cleanliness should not be confined to a single day; rather, keeping our surroundings clean must become a daily habit. The foundation of nation-building is laid through voluntary labor.”
6. Vote of Thanks and Conclusion
The NSS unit extended formal gratitude to all NSS volunteers, faculty, and staff members who worked hard to make the drive a success. Finally, all attendees took a collective pledge to keep their surroundings clean, and the program concluded with the National Anthem.
Conclusion
The campus cleanliness drive conducted under “Swachhata Pakhwada 2026” was a resounding success. This initiative effectively strengthened the spirit of voluntary labor, social responsibility, and environmental conservation among the students.
