Event Report: ‘Pledge Ceremony for Cleanliness’ (Swachhata Pratigya Sohala)

1. Introduction & Background
In alignment with the noble message “Cleanliness is Godliness” from Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj’s Gramgeetha and in accordance with the directives of the Central Government, ‘Swachhata Pakhwada 2026’ (Cleanliness Fortnight) is being organized from August 1, 2026, to August 15, 2026. To mark the inauguration of this fortnight, a special ‘Cleanliness Pledge Ceremony’ was organized at the college on August 1, 2026.
2. Main Program Structure & Highlights
Lighting of the Lamp & Garlandings:
The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and offering floral garlands to the portrait of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj by the Hon. Principal and invited guests.
Administering the Cleanliness Pledge:
At 10:30 AM, all attendees gathered in the main campus quadrangle, where the NSS Program Officer administered the Cleanliness Pledge to everyone present.
Key Essence of the Pledge:
”I will devote at least 100 hours per year—which translates to 2 hours per week—toward cleanliness.”
”I will neither litter nor allow anyone else to litter.”
”I will initiate cleanliness first with myself, my family, and my college.”
Addresses by the Chairperson & Key Speakers:
NSS Program Officer: Outlined the various activities scheduled for the upcoming 15 days in the introductory speech and emphasized the importance of hygiene and cleanliness.
Presidential Address: Hon. Principal, Dr. P. T. Bansod, stated in his message that cleanliness is not merely a one-day campaign, but a vital necessity of human life and culture. He urged students studying in the land of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj to imbibe these values of cleanliness in their daily lives.
3. Voluntary Labor & Campus Cleaning (Afternoon Session)
Following the pledge ceremony, NSS volunteers engaged in active physical labor (Shramdaan) from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
Plastic Collection: Plastic waste was collected from the main entrance gate and the sports ground of the college.
Classroom Cleaning: Volunteers cleaned their respective classrooms and study spaces.
4. Participation
More than 80 NSS volunteers, along with teaching and non-teaching staff, participated in large numbers. Everyone took part in this drive with great enthusiasm and discipline.
5. Conclusion
The Cleanliness Pledge Ceremony organized on August 1, 2026, concluded with immense enthusiasm and success. This event effectively fostered social awareness and a sense of duty toward cleanliness among the students.
