1. Introduction
Organ donation is considered one of the noble acts of humanity. A single donor can bestow a new lease on life to multiple needy patients. With the noble objectives of dispelling myths surrounding organ donation, instilling awareness among students, and spreading the vital message of organ donation to every household, a special guidance program was organized on August 7, 2026, jointly by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Rashtrasant Tukdoji College, Chimur, and the Sub-District Hospital, Chimur.
2. Commencement and Welcome
The program commenced with the traditional offering of floral garlands to the portrait of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. NSS volunteers presented a welcome song. Subsequently, the NSS Program Officer delivered the introductory address, and the medical officers and expert team from Sub-District Hospital, Chimur, were cordially welcomed by the college with shawls, coconuts, and floral bouquets.
3. Guidance by Expert Speakers
Medical officers and the health care team from Sub-District Hospital, Chimur, provided students with detailed, scientific, and easily understandable information about organ donation. In their addresses, they emphasized the following key points:
Importance and Need for Organ Donation: Every year in India, thousands of patients lose their lives due to the unavailability of organs in time. They explained how donating organs such as the heart, kidneys, liver, and eyes (cornea) provides a life-giving opportunity to critically ill patients.
Brain Death and Organ Donation: Scientific details were shared regarding how organ donation is conducted in cases of ‘brain dead’ patients and how a single donor can save multiple lives simultaneously.
Dispelling Myths and Superstitions: Misconceptions and taboos surrounding organ donation remain prevalent in society. The medical team addressed student queries directly and debunked these unfounded myths.
Pledge and Registration Process: Students were informed about how to fill out organ donation pledge cards, consent forms, and the process for online/offline donor registration.
4. Interactive Session and Q&A
Following the guidance session, an interactive Q&A session was conducted for the students. NSS volunteers and students asked various questions related to organ donation, such as age limits for donors, which organs can be donated, and the role of the family after a donor’s demise. The medical team provided comprehensive and satisfactory answers to all inquiries.
5. Appeal by the Principal and NSS Team
In their address, the College Principal and NSS Program Officers highlighted that youth are the true ambassadors of change. They appealed to the NSS volunteers to not only stay informed themselves but also actively create awareness among their families, friends, and villages, effectively translating the message “Organ Donation – Life Donation” into reality.
6. Vote of Thanks
The NSS unit expressed heartfelt gratitude to the team from Sub-District Hospital, Chimur, for their valuable collaboration. Faculty members and NSS volunteers worked diligently to ensure the smooth execution of the event. The program officially concluded with the collective recitation of the National Anthem.
