“Modesty must be instilled with Knowledge; knowledge makes free and fearless; education strengthens the will towards a successful life“
Chimur, a socially and economically backward historical village and today a small tehsil in the historical district of Chandrapur, discovered routes of development quite late. The year 1942 was a sizzling year not only in the history of India but also in the history of Chimur. With the intensification of Gandhi’s struggle for India’s freedom, one of his followers and close associate Shri Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj’s fiery bhajans and preaching were slowly and steadily awakening the humble folk of Chimur and nearby villages for a mass struggle against the British Empire. His fiery bhajans, one of the most celebrated one like “झाड़–झडूले शस्त्र बनेंगे , पत्थर सारे बॉम्ब बनेंगे ” ( trees and stones will be transformed into weapons for the revolutionaries against the British) lit up the fire of freedom into the hearts of young and old , who then rose up to lay down their lives for the freedom of motherland from the oppressive British regime in Chimur , and they freed Chimur from the shackles of British slavery. Such was their courage and valor against the British Empire that Netaji Subash Chandra Bose himself had announced from the Berlin Radio the proclamation of the independence of Chimur. Some of the founding members of our management were voluntarily involved in the revolution and were arrested by the British government for partaking in the revolt. The 1947 freedom of India was a bliss for the people of Chimur . The British Raj was a dark age for the people, but the freedom ended it in 1947.
While the battle for freedom was over, another battle was raging on a different front. It was a battle against the darkness of ignorance. In those days, Chimur lacked educational facility. Few could pursue education. To eradicate
that darkness of ignorance, activists of Shri Gurudeo Seva Mandal Chimur , an organization found by Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj for the upliftment of rural areas and development of its people, came out with the idea of Gandhi Seva Shikshan Samiti in 1952. The organization started primary and high schools at villages like Chimur , Masal, Gondeda, Jambhulghat and Mangalgaon . In 1972 the management laid down the foundation stone of Rashtrasant Tukdoji College, Chimur with undergraduate courses so that the poor and underprivileged students of the locality could pursue higher education. Later, despite financial difficulties, the management also introduced Post- Graduate Degree Courses in Marathi, Sociology, Economics and Commerce.
