Department of English, one of the biggest departments of Rashtrasant Tukdoji College, Chimur, has been functioning steadily and unwaveringly to carry out the mission of strengthening and enlightening learners from rural area into the realm of English language proficiencies. Apart from appropriately fulfilling academic responsibilities including extra classes for intellectually weak students and failed students, the Department also takes keen interest in initiating Communicative English classes for undergraduate to postgraduate students, organizing debates and essay competition for all faculty students of the college and conducting seminars on English in competitive examination. Professors of the department also motivate students for group discussion. We have been inviting eminent resource persons to the department. Department of English has inaugurated a wall-magazine, the Mirror, for all the departments of the college and, moreover, the department has an association called English Literary Association, the purpose of which is to generate and sustain curiosity of rural students into the field of English literature. Under the project “Sesame’’ students visit and refer books of English Literature and language. Department of English has newly established a bridge of cooperation with English department of sister institutes in the past under the leadership of Dr P. V. Antony, the former Principal and Head of English and Prof. Ashutosh M. Popate. We visit English department of other colleges as guest lecturers and invite professors of these colleges to our department as guest lecturers. During the pandemic time our department engages itself successfully in teaching –learning activities through virtual mode by using a variety of platforms like Moodle Website, Blogger, Audio Podcast, Google Classroom, YouTube, etc.
